[Application - Trans 9]

Character's name: Donna Noble
Character's LJ: [livejournal.com profile] prattlingvoice
Character's canon: Doctor Who
Brief (around 300 words) personality outline of your character:
Donna's personality is hard to miss - for one thing, you can usually hear it from some distance away. She's abrasive with a sharp tongue, and quite often her typical reaction to something that annoys, vexes, or angers her is to shout at it. In fact, Donna shutting up is a rare and unusual event that is not often witnessed.

But while her brash personality and quick temper can make her appear to be simple and unintelligent (along with the fact that she's also known to gossip about trivial and unimportant things), Donna is in fact highly intelligent, with a level head and perceptive observational skills. Even as she's ranting away, Donna pays attention to what's going on around her. Her quick wit can also lead to plenty of playful banter, and when she's not angry at someone Donna can be friendly and sociable.

She's also highly compassionate, and has been known to act as the Doctor's conscience - forcefully, at times. If she believes that someone is doing something that is morally wrong, she will push at the issue, and keep pushing. This doesn't mean that she won't change her viewpoint - if a situation changes, or new information comes to light, she is capable of realising that what she originally thought was the right option isn't actually so right. She also won't stand back from taking responsibility from difficult moral choices by leaving it all to someone else - she could have just let the Doctor decide on his own to destroy Pompeii to save the world, but she instead choose to share in that choice and make it with him. She's also able to emphasise very quickly with other people, even ones who are of a different species and completely alien to her, like the Ood.

Donna also suffers from low self esteem issues, although she covers them up well. She often describes herself as 'just a temp', and believes herself to be unimportant and not special. In fact, the Doctor once says that she reason that she shouts at the universe is because she thinks that no one is listening. But, while she no longer remembers it, her time with the Doctor did start to help her realise that she is in fact special, and not unimportant at all.

Brief (around 500 words) history and background of your character OR link to a really good wiki page with their history. In either case, explain where they cut off from the timeline:
Wiki link - Donna is taken from not long after the end of Season Four (but before the Specials), after she's had her memories of the Doctor wiped and has returned back home.

Sample post (just a general, everyday, puttering-around-the-ship post; please include a snippet of dialogue):
One moment, Donna had been at home, sitting in the kitchen and listening to her mother nag. She couldn't even remember what she'd been nagging about - it was just white noise, she hadn't even been paying attention to it.

But now she was suddenly waking up. In some weird chamber. Covered in slime. Naked.

"What?!" she said, sitting up and trying to cover herself. "Where the hell am I? What is this place?!"

||You are here.||

Donna jumped, looking around to try and find the source of the voice. "Oh, I'm here, am I? Well thanks, that just made everything clearer. How about you actually tell me where 'here' is? Oi! I'M TALKING TO YOU, LADY! COME OUT WHERE I CAN SEE YOU!"

There was no response, and Donna clambered to her feet. This was ridiculous. Why on Earth was she naked? She couldn't just go wondering around naked! "Is that you, Nerys? Is this some sick joke? Well it's not funny!" Oh, she was going to kill that Nerys when she found her.

But finding Nerys could come after finding some clothes. God, this was embarrassing.

If the character has magic, mutant, or otherwise metahuman abilities, please explain what they are and outline EXACTLY how they function, as their powers may not work due to the nature of the ship or may need to be limited somehow:
As the result of a rather bizarre situation involving her touching the Doctor's severed hand when it was imbued with regeneration energy that caused a human-Time Lord Metacrisis, Donna became the 'DoctorDonna', a human with a Time Lord mind. This gave her all of the intelligence and knowledge of the Doctor (Which is a lot of intelligence and knowledge, considering that the Doctor is over 900 years old and 'genius' is a word that doesn't really do him justice). However, humans aren't built to have Time Lord minds, and this knowledge and intelligence was causing Donna to burn up. In order to save her life, the Doctor wiped Donna's memory - all of her memories of the Doctor, the TARDIS, and her adventures with him.

Now, if Donna is to remember the Doctor or her time traveling with him, her mind would burn up and kill her. Not much is known about what would happen, but events in The End of Time suggest that the memories would cause her extreme headaches before killing her. Possibly as a counter against this (as well as against anyone who would attack Donna), the Doctor gave Donna a defense mechanism - when in mortal peril or in danger of remembering the Doctor, Donna will let out a wave of energy that attacks anyone nearby, knocking them out. Donna herself also collapses, presumably from the strain of this. Donna has no conscious control over this.

In addition to her defence mechanism, Donna's Time Lord mind is still able to subconsciously influence her actions on occasion. She might unconciously tap into her Time Lord knowledge or intelligence, and then unknowingly try to signal what she's found to someone else (such as when she bought a book about Naismith for her grandfather, as a clue).

Non-superhuman special abilities of note (Is your character a master ventriloquist? A naturally-occurring super-genius? The best martial artist in the world? Say so here):
While not a genius like the Doctor, Donna is intelligent and highly perceptive. Her work as a temp means that she's highly adaptable, and she is able to pick up new skills in a short period of time (such as when she learned the Dewey Decimal System in two days). She also has general office, admin, and secretarial skills, and knows her way around an organisation. While the Doctor's off looking for alien residue and other strange things, Donna will check the paper trail and look for more mundane signs that something is odd. She can also type at 100 words per minute, and is in her own words, 'the best temp in Chiswick'.
